Bromley by Bow Centre -

The Bromley by Bow Centre (BBBC) is an innovative community organisation in east London, working in one of the most deprived boroughs in the UK. Offering support to families, young people and adults of all ages to learn new skills, improve their health and wellbeing, find employment and develop the confidence to achieve their goals and transform their lives. BBBC is one of the early adopters of social prescribing. Self-funded in its infancy, the service has been funded by Tower Hamlets CCG and the Mile End and Bromley by Bow GP network since 2013. It operates across five GP practices with a joint patient population of just under 37,000. The scheme now forms part of a wider borough roll-out across Tower Hamlets, commissioned by Tower Hamlets CCG via the GP Care Group. It is one of six pilots across eight networks.

The Centre has also partnered with Macmillan Cancer Support to deliver a social-prescribing service for people living with and beyond cancer to improve their wellbeing. Patients are referred to local services, such as work and welfare advice, as well as invited to take part in activities, including walking, art and gardening groups. The service is available in Tower Hamlets, City and Hackney, Newham and Waltham Forest by referral through GP practices, hospitals, community organisations and self-referral.

BBBC has published several reports about social prescribing, including case studies and feedback from patients, clinical referrers and community service providers about the interventions. Please click on the links below to access these:
